"No other dog like you!" - LIron and Petel "כלבה שאין שנייה לה!"

Liron Artzi is a graduate of the center and received her dog Petel in October, 2009. She is an attorney and works in the State law office in Tel Aviv. The following is a birthday wish for Petel, who is now 7 years old: Petel, my one and only love! Tomorrow is your birthday, and like every year, I'm sending you birthday wishes because there is no other dog like you! Six years ago was one of the joyous moments in my life when I met you at Beit Oved. Since then my life has been filled with great happiness, deep fulfillment, constant action, and love – my endless love for you and your unconditional love for me. For the past six years we have been together morning and night, in Israel and abroad, and experienced exciting moments of independence, wholeness, belonging, and of being together as much as together can be. We have experienced moments of accepting people who are different into society – of openness and tolerance. My Petel, for me you are not a dog, but practically a person. You feel me without words, you lick me endlessly (everyone knows that). You lead me through the busy streets of Tel Aviv and other major cities with confidence, charm, and determination. We always have our time together at the end of the day when you remind me every day how much you love me. Yesterday when I rode to Haifa on the train without you it was so very different. Even though it was only a two-hour trip, I missed your licking me in the train station, your tail wagging, and your confidently leading me. Petel, you are the love of my life, and my eyes are filling with tears. I love you and wish for you and for me that you would never grow old, if that were possible, my one and only Petel!

Flash Meets DInka

Flash, a yellow Labrador, was raised by Max Fineman and his family in the United States and arrived in Israel last September when he was about six months old. Max raised Flash as a Bar Mitzvah project, and he is now being raised by Nadav Garr, yet another Bar Mitzvah student and his family who live in Modi'in. This week Nadav made a presentation to his 6th grade class and explained his project. Flash was there as well as Dinka, Bracha Ben*Avraham's guide dog. The students held a class discussion in which Bracha and Nadav answered questions about blindness, guide dogs, and the activities of the Center. Flash, who is now about 10 months old, is almost as large as DInka, and is a lively rambunctious puppy. Dinka and Flash hit it off right away! The photo shows Flash, wearing his blue puppy vest, and DInka, with Jennifer Garr, Nadav's mother. We wish Nadav mazal tov and success in his Bar MItzvah studies and to Flash as he completes the year with his puppy raiser family.
