Yariv, Eli, and Glen in Toronto

Eli Yablonek with his guide dog Glen and Yariv Melamed, a senior trainer at the center recently returned from a trip to Toronto. The trip was particularly significant because it was the first such fundraising tour in which an instructor from the center took part together with a graduate. Since Yariv was both Eli's instructor and Glen's trainer, his presence was particularly helpful. "Yariv often walked on the street slightly behind me just like instructors do during training," explained Eli. Yariv also lived in Toronto and attended the Bialik School, where he and Eli met with students. The trip included many events that placed emphasis upon awareness, fund and friend-raising, and information about how guide dogs are raised and trained. At one of the schools Eli and Yariv decided to do more than just lecture, and Yariv prepared an obstacle course in the gymnasim and led students through it blindfolded. One special event during the tour was the premiere of a 27-minute film about the IGDCB delegation to the March of the Living in Poland at the Habomin Congregation of Eli Rubenstein. "All the events were well-attended and well planned, and we made a lot of new contacts," reported Eli. "The atmosphere was really excellent and we were extremely well-received by the community in Toronto." Another event took place in a pub and was attended by 120 people, who made generous donations and enjoyed jazz music. Thanks to Sara Gasbriel, who planned the trip, and to Ayal Lesh, who will be replacing Sara as Director of the Friends Organization in Toronto. We wish you many more successful tours in the future!
